Nu Phi Omega - Muskegon, Michigan
Nu Phi Omega’s roots date back to August 1979, when Soror Ann Jones decided to invite several local sorors to her home to plan monthly family-related activities so that their minds and hearts would rejuvenate sisterly love. These five sorors (Ann Allen, Arma Brown, Ann Jones, Bobbye McKinney and Deidre McKinney) sought to involve other sorors. On festive holiday occasions, they mingled with other Greeks to stimulate morals and create “togetherness.”
The five sorors addressed the cause and they journeyed to Buffalo, New York, with other Michigan chapters for the Golden Great Lakes Regional Conference. On Sunday, April 12, 1981, under the auspices of Dr. Gloria S. Smith, Great Lakes Regional Director, Nu Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was born—78th chapter in the Great Lakes Region. A copy of the charter is permanently housed in the Alpha Kappa Alpha National Archives in Washington, D.C., with other commemorative memorabilia of the 50th Great Lakes Regional Conference.
